In der Tat, ich habe schon mehrfach Überlegungen in diese Richtung angestellt – es ist eigentlich allerhöchste Zeit, auch unseren englischsprachigen Freunden der Inhalte der EOTC-Seiten teilhaftig werden zu lassen. Es ist fürwahr ein ausgesprochen unbefriedigender Zustand, dass es derweilen noch keine englische Version der EOTC-Seiten gibt. Unsere Freunde in Übersee und anderen englischsprachigen Teilen der Welt haben ein gewissermaßen natürliches Recht auf eine englische Version.

Allein: Wie irgendwann früher schon angedeutet, ist eine Übersetzung der Seiten, welche gerade auch die EOTC-eigene Stilistik nicht vernachlässigt, ein überaus mühevolles Unterfangen welches meine Kenntnisse der englischen Sprache leider denn doch übersteigt. Ich gestehe das frank, frey und unumwunden.

Mit wenig Erfolg richtete ich schon vor zwo, drey Jahren einen Aufruf an die deutschsprachige Sinatra-Gemeinde, die besten Köpfe mögen sich der Sache zum Wohle unserer amerikanischen und sonstigen englischsprachigen Brüder und Schwestern annehmen und ihre Kenntnisse dem Wohl meiner Seiten zur Verfügung stellen. Der Appell verpuffte jedoch leider ungehört (zumindest waren die Antwortpostings mehrheitlich der Sache an sich nicht eben dienlich).

Was die google-Übersetzungsprogramme angeht, scheinen sie – auch wenn immer noch meilenweit von Brauchbarkeit entfernt – in den letzten beiden Jahren deutliche Fortschritte gemacht zu haben. Im Gegensatz zu früher machen manche Sätze bzw. Satztheile sogar schon streckenweise Sinn. Tatsächlich kann man inzwischen das Programm bei eigenen, handgemachten Übersetzungen schon hie und da als Hülfsmittel in den gelegentlichen Betracht ziehen.
